Roo'ra (룰라) is a Korean reggae/hip hop and dance group. Their name is an abbreviation for Roots of Reggae.
They first debuted in 1995 as a 3-male and 1-female reggae-pop group, with their debut hit song, No Secrets. Original members consist of Lee Sang-min, Go Young-wook, Kim Ji-hyun, and Shin Jung-hwan. Shortly after, Shin Jung-hwan left for the Korean army and was replaced by Choi Rina, who was initially poorly received and was given more of a backdancer role in the group.
Their second album was a huge hit in Korea, and the group started moving away from the heavy reggae undertones and focused more on hip-hop. Their song, The Angel That Lost Their Wings, was another complete success, topping number 1 for several weeks.
However the group experienced some turmoil with their 3rd album's release (Reincarnation of a Legend). Their songwriter, known as Rabbit plagiarized a Japanese song and ran into major legal problems, and Roo'Ra decided not to perform any songs off their 3rd album shortly thereafter. Their record label World Music fired Rabbit and went to look for a replacement. Lee Hyun Do (of Deux fame, shortly after their separation) stepped in and gave Roo'Ra a complete facelift for their 4th album, which again pushed the group to the top.
In 1997, Kim Ji-hyun left the group to pursue a solo career, and was replaced by temporary vocalist Mikey Romeo for their fifth album, Lover.
Kim Ji-hyun returned for the release of the group's next album in 1999. After Roo'ra disbanded in 2001, members Lee Sang-min, Chae Ri-na, Go Young-wook, and Kim Ji-hyun reunited in 2009 for one last album, A9ain.
