Biography

Roadside Poppies are an indie pop band based in Copenhagen (DK) with members in Cambridge, Manchester (UK) and Melbourne (AUS).

Roadside Poppies were established in Cambridge, UK in 2005 by multi-instrumentalist and singer Matloob Qureshi as a one-man 'pop with tuneless melodies' project, but the project quickly grew into a full band, with two songwriters, two lead singers and skillful keyboard- and guitar players. The ensemble somehow managed to stray a small distance off the grassy verge of tunelessness and into a field of catchy and bass-driven guitar pop songs.

The 2006 'final' lineup was:
Matloob Qureshi: Vocals, guitar, bass and harmonica.
Martin White: Vocals, guitar and bass. (also plays in Colonel Bastard)
Duncan Scott: Keyboard and melodica.
Nick Peters: Guitar, accordion and glockenspiel.
Adam Woodsford: Guitar and bass. (also plays in The Centimes)

The band recorded an entire album of demos called One Day you won't feel a thing with songs about summer, flowers, cycling, falling in and out of love and murderous neighbours in February 2007 for the RPM Challenge.

In the summer of 2007 the band released an EP on WeePop! Records called Cycling and crying, and in September 2007 they went on a tour in the Scandinavian Countries.

In 2008 Matloob moved to Copenhagen and created a parallel Roadside Poppies that included Danish musicians Line Sandst (vocals and glockenspiel), Morten Hougaard (bass) (also plays in Ampel) and Mads Johannes Nielsen (guitar) (also plays in Sock Puppets), but songwriting was still carried out by Matloob and Martin.
In the summer of 2008 the two parallel lineups joined forces performed live at the Indietracks Festival in Derby, UK.

Later the lineup has been modified, as Mads left the band in 2009, but Elise Madsen (vocals) (also plays in The Glow Cats) and Kasper Clemmensen (guitar) (also plays in Ampel and The Glow Cats) joined the same year. Following their performance at the Copenhagen Popfest in 2010 they dropped the rhythm box backing track completely and Claus Frølich (also plays in Younolovebunny) joined as drummer for the band.
