Biography
Riot Like Words was a post-hardcore band from Austin, Texas, United States.
Bio from their Myspace:
"Starting out playing only local shows, Riot Like Words gained a large fan base in their hometown of Austin, Texas. Attaining popularity in the live music capital of the world was not easy, and proved that they had something special in their music to make them stick out above the hundreds of other local bands. The band brought a live show to the table that was filled with an amazing energy, complete with guitarists doing black flips without missing a note. This was something Austinites were not used to seeing at the typical local shows downtown. Stepping out above the others with a melodic post-hardcore genre put RLW in a field that no other Austin based band had touched, and that named them one of AustinPunkRock.org's number 1 bands.
With the release of their first EP "When All Else Fails," Riot Like Words was ready to leave the local scene and hit the road. In December of 2004, the band booked their first tour. Staying mostly in Texas, they embarked on an 11 day tour that left fans in other cities begging for them to return. The success of this tour proved that the band not only had amazing musical abilities, but were also familiar with the business aspect of the industry. This tour spread their album all over Texas and surrounding states, giving them the exposure they needed to take them to the next level.
But RLW didn't stop there. Continuing to visit those cities again every weekend that they could, they gained large fan bases in cities like Houston and Dallas, Texas, and Shreveport, Louisiana. Bringing hundreds of kids every time they hit the stage, the band finally started to get a taste of what being a band really is.
In July of 2005, the band released their full length album "A Day In The Life Of The Optimist". After selling hundreds of copies in the first days of release, the band was ready for yet another addition. Moving Kyle Hughes from guitar to synthesizer made room for former manager and long time friend Wes Seaton. Seaton added great vocals and the music know-how that took the band to the next level. Debuting the new line up just weeks before their second tour, fans were stunned with the new sound. Taking this amazing change on the road brought a tour more successful then the previous one, hitting more states and more cities than ever before.
Riot Like Words continues to work their way to success, constantly breaking new ground with their music and live show. No matter where their music takes them, the band will continue to do what they love most: play shows and write great songs. There are no limits on what they will achieve, and they are excited to see what their music careers have in store for them."
