Biography
Radiodriver is comprised of the former members of the alternative Christian band, groove (Gene Amason on drums, Jonathan Blackwell on rhythm guitar/vocals, and Matthew Magee on lead guitar) with the addition of Phil Blackwell taking over for departing bassist, Jeff Johnston. With a big two-guitar attack, the band sounds something like Plankeye seasoned with Dear Ephesus. Blending modern alternative, indie rock, and bits of emo, the band’s debut is a promising record.
The six-song EP, Slightly Out of Focus, swings from sullen to energetic, coming alive with cool, hard guitar parts and moving melodies. Personal relationships with friends, ex-friends, or with the Lord are the topics of choice. The first song, “So-Called Life,” is a strong alternative-indie tune with prodigious guitar riffs holding it all together. The record takes more of an emo approach and loses a little momentum, but not entirely. While some songs are a little lengthy, Radiodriver carries the weight quite well. Clearly, Radiodriver is a talented band on the road to a sharper image. A little to the left, no a little to the right … that’s close … oh my, it’s all just Slightly Out of Focus.
