Biography
Piitsukkut is Greenland's first punk band.
Piitsukkut was formed in 1979 in Qaqortoq and consisted of Maasi Lynge (bass, vocals), Ujuunnguaq Ilinngivakkeeq (guitar), Tinka Abelsen (drums) and Hans Peter Kleemann (guitar). The group played in the village hall and in Skipperkroen, and was very popular. Spring 1980 the group was invited to Copenhagen, Sweet Silence study of Karsten Sommer, who at the time managed the record company ULO. The group has a kind of cult status in today's Greenland.
The tone of Piitsukkut is revolutionary and crude, personified by the late Maasi Lynge, whose rusty voice raging against the foreign exploiters.
The team concluded, unfortunately, only to release an LP (later also as CD) - Inuiaat Naqisimaneqartugut Kattutta (ULO 10).
