Biography

Patricia Burda Janečková (18 June 1998, Münchberg, Bavaria, Germany – 1 October 2023, Ostrava, Czech Republic) was a Slovak soprano. Her parents are Slovaks and since early childhood she has resided in Ostrava. Though only 13 years of age she is currently wowing people worldwide with her extraordinary vocal talent and has experts amazed at her musical maturity, intonation clarity and cultivated voice.

She had her first experience with opera and the opera theatre as a member of the Childs Opera Studio at the Antonin Dvorak Theatre in Ostrava. At the age of 10 she won a competition run by the Ostrava Janáček Philharmonic and she had her first opportunity to sing with a full symphony orchestra. In 2010 she became the absolute winner of the Czech TV talent competition, Talentmania.

During 2011 she recorded and released her debut CD, and performed her first public recital at the Viva Musical Festival accompanied by a full-sized symphonic orchestra.

Janečková was noted for her passionate and emotive performances, and is known for receiving a standing ovation while performing Ennio Morricone's theme song from Once Upon a Time in the West at the Rudolfinum in Prague. She continued to perform in public while studying privately with Czech soprano Eva Dřízgová-Jirušová.

In 2017, she performed the role of Galatea in Handel's Acis and Galatea with Collegium Marianum as part of the Janáček Music Festival.

On 10 February 2022, Janečková announced on her Instagram page that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite early signs of a successful treatment, which allowed her to briefly return to performing in 2023, Janečková passed away from the illness on 1 October 2023.
