Biography
Since self releasing their debut concept album ‘Deux’ last year, paqman have been tweaking their big beat electronic sound during 2008. They have supported major acts such as Akufen, Garth Emery, Endorphin, The Aston Shuffle and D’opus/Roshambo, and received national airplay on Triple J. Their version of The Salmon Dance was runner up in a global Chemical Brothers remix competition; it’s just to say Hayden Quinn and James Hewson have undertaken a considerable career prior to the age of 20.

Lugging a metric heap of analogue and digital gear, the boys bring an engaging and unique touch to the electronic live show, producing huge beats, acid and catchy melodics, twisted up between vocoded vocals and screaming effects. They provide a satisfying change from the generic dance music coming from DJ’s and live acts. Paqman are en route to becoming the new trendsetters in stadium electronica, pioneering a sound reminiscent of original big beat giants The Chemical Brothers while drawing from the roughest of noize from Ed Banger and Berlin.

Leaving behind a solid Canberra following, Hayden and James have made the move to Melbourne and begun work on their sophomore effort, entitled ‘Devastating EP’, a record independent from and unaffected by anything outside the dimly lit machine ridden room it’s being produced in. The overall sound is fierce, epic and evocative but with moments of reminiscent youthful joy, capturing the atmosphere the faulty electrics and dusty equipment of the studio emit. Its intention is to showcase hard hitting new electronica, though as it is more vocal than the band’s previous works it becomes an approachable and fresh collection of paqman’s innovative style.
