Biography
Charles Evan Parke (21st March, 1987) is an English noise 'musician' from Manchester. Yes, another Last.fm user noise project. Parke is the founder and sole member behind the aggressively creative and artistic force known as ‘Not You’. His work is continually praised (by himself) for pushing the boundaries of creative experiments and taste.
Bored one afternoon, Parke decided to produce some music. Having failed that, he settled on creating noise instead. One week later and with no prior musical experience, his first EP was written, performed, produced and unleashed upon an unsuspecting public. His creations are inspired not just by the works of John Cage, Stockhausen and Rihanna but from everyday sounds such as kitchen utensils, drills and gunshots. Parke’s vision is that music shouldn’t just show beauty but can express all the ugliness of the world and human nature as well. “Every musical artist out there at least tries to make their music sound good but I wanted to be different.”
Charles Parke has a hatred towards not only the commercial music industry but music in general. "I hate music! I don't produce music, I produce sounds. If only other popular recording artists would drop their pretensions and be honest about what they create."
Finally, here is a small segment taken from a review in Rolling Stone magazine:
“All of it rocks; none of it sounds like any other band on earth; it delivers an emotional punch that proves all other rock stars owe us an apology.”
