Fighting for love, a growing shoe collection, the end of the world — Rapstar* tells the story of inner city life and the performance of being a girl. The album is split into two sides: tracks 1-7 on Side A focus on the pop elements of NEW YORK’s production, while Side B tracks 8-14 reveal their interest in experimental composition. Mixing hip-hop, dub and glitch, the record evokes a nostalgia for lo-fi bedroom pop and amateur production techniques of early internet music. The sound is harsh and rebellious, a push for change. Rapstar* embraces chaos, restless in its struggle to look normal.
