Nescience was formed in a small garage in August of 2009 over a shared passion for music and creativity. They spent the following year writing and practicing before they played their first show to a crowded pub on a Friday night. Since striking their first chords, the band has experienced a lot of transition with artistic direction and creative processes, but they perform regularly and write music relentlessly. Most of the venues that Nescience plays are close to their home-town of Santa Rosa, California, which is in the heart of the eclectic contemporary-meets-pastoral locale that is Sonoma County Wine Country.

The name “Nescience” was born from a Latin term for ignorance, however, it also means making a rehearsed performance appear genuine and spontaneous. The underlying thread that is woven within the fabric of Nescience traces back to ancient ideas about the dichotomy between wisdom and ignorance which remains just as pervasive and elusive in modern times. The sole purpose for the existence of Nescience is in creating music that is as original as it is powerful. It's also paramount for the band to make choices that reflect the honesty and integrity of its members. Nescience takes pride in their humble roots and has remained unique and original to their ownership of the brand they have spent the past five years defining. They have stayed true to their creative vision and are not an image-driven band, nor do they waste time on gimmicks.

All four members of Nescience are hard rock enthusiasts. Some of the common influences they share include Tool, Thrice, and The Dear Hunter. Their songs often combine dark and heavy tones with intricate melodies and lyrics that are personal yet relevant. If you ask anyone who has been to a performance by Nescience, their music speaks for itself. Their lyrics communicate from deep within the soul and their instrumental sound is the life force that pulses from the stage.

In October of 2012, Nescience went to work recording their first full-length album with the creative and technical help of sound engineer Nick Botelho. Botelho has made a career of recording successful local bands in his home studio. The album, "One With Gravity and the Darkness" was finally released on July 2, 2013 to much support and enthusiasm from fans. This has been a very momentous year for Nescience. The band has accomplished a great deal without a manager or a record label – their passion and commitment to their music are responsible for all of their success and popularity thus far. They hope to find their way into the mainstream music industry and broaden their fan-base, generating new fans of rock music and capturing the interest of others with their unique perspective. Currently, Nescience is working on a music video for the track "Take Control" and look forward to recording their next album in the coming year.
