Biography

Better known as the voice behind samba school Beija-Flor de Nilópolis since 1975, Neguinho da Beija-Flor is one of Brazil's most popular and respected samba interpreters, with a powerful and melodic voice that has helped him forge a successful career beyond samba schools and outside Carnaval. The son of a musician and a former fireman, Neguinho won his first music competition as a 10-year-old and made his official debut in Rio's Carnaval as the samba singer (puxador de samba) of Leão de Iguaçu in 1970.
