Before I saw them live I had only listened to their old recordings. His voice did NOT sound like that. I was talking to the band for most of the show leading up to their set. John was kind and spoke with a low voice. But as soon as they started playing I was stunned. He really sounded evil in the best way. You kinda expect vocalists to decline a bit once they get older but his vocals literally sounded better
