Biography
There is a rising sense of anticipation among the ranks of My Musical Collective. Despite gaining a name for themselves with their theatrical live shows, they appear to be destined for grander things.
The Melbourne 8 piece has recently teamed up with enigmatic producer Kal Tonuma, (Crowded House, Split Enz, The Temper Trap) This combination of old and new influences sum up the band well, having been compared to The Cure or Vampire Weekend just as frequently as The Beach Boys or Frank Sinatra.
They give us the first taste of their debut L.P, with the single “Lawrence Of Arabia”. Set to be released on the 10th of July, the song will be inaugurated with a show at the prestigious Toff In Town, playing alongside the equally ambitious Kimbra and The Ocean Party, each of which are on the rise in the Melbourne music scene.
The album promises a distinctive sound, simultaneously bold and ambitious with a certain air of understated confidence. The band are not afraid of unleashing unexpected orchestral crescendos, swinging out the odd waltz or playing driving indie-pop. Currently My Musical Collective sit in the shadows, patiently sharpening their swords in quiet anticipation of the promising year that lies ahead.
