Biography

Billed as “one of Canada’s most audacious new composers” (The Western Front), Michael has collaborated in a number of contexts spanning from concert music to large-scale theatre productions. His most noted projects include collaborations with the Juno award winning Orchid Ensemble, plunderphonics composer John Oswald, famed Generation X author Douglas Coupland. He was honoured with the Allan Award in Electroacoustic composition (2003), and the SFU arts service award (2004). Michael holds advanced music degrees from Concordia and Simon Fraser University (SFU) and currently holds a teaching fellowship in music theory at SFU's School for the Contemporary Arts. Michael is a regular contributor to La Scena Musicale classical music magazine, and for the past five years has been the acting news editor for LSM's website.
