Mengla Huang is becoming one of the most active violinists today. In 2002, he won the first prize at the prestigious Paganini International Violin Competition in Italy, where he also was awarded the Renato De Barbieri Memorial award for the best interpretation of Paganini's caprices and the Mario Ruminelli Memorial award. Hailed by Chinese press as "The Paganini made in China", Mengla Huang is acknowledged as one of the most outstanding young violinists of his generation. He has performed to acclaim throughout Asia, Europe, North America, including recitals in China, Japan, Korea, Italy, and France.
Renowned orchestras have presented Mengla Huang as a featured soloist: Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Choeng Ju Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, German National Philharmonic, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Kyoto Philharmonic Orchestra, Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, Orchestra della Fondazione Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, Sendai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed with conductors such as: Chikara Iwamura, Henrik Schaefer, Muhai Tang, Neeme Jarvi, Nicola Luisotti, Ryusuke Numajiri, Thomas Dausgaard, Tovey Bramwell etc. He has headlined festival concerts at Shanghai Spring.
Mengla Huang was born in 1980 in Shanghai and began to study the violin at age 4. He was accepted by Shanghai Conservatory at age 8. His rare talent was immediately recognized by the renowned violinist and pedagogue Lina Yu with whom he has studied since. He received his music education at the Shanghai Conservatory starting in primary school and recently received his Masters Degree. He became the youngest faculty member of Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
In addition to the Paganini prize, during 2000 and 2002, the awards he received including Gold Medal and Public Prize in the 2001 Sendai International Music Competition in Japan, Best Performance Prize in the 2001 Shanghai Spring International Festival,and the Second Prize in the 2000 Lipinsky and Wieniawsky International Violin Competition in Poland. He now plays 1677 A.Guarneri, which is graciously loaned to him by MR. & MRS. Rin.
Mengla Huang is under contract as a recording artist for Universal Music. His first CD record was released under the Deutsche Grammophon label in 2005.
