Biography
Matheus Who organically features the Brazilian bedroom pop scenario. In 2019, he gained attention on the Internet
with the release of “Deeply”: “I didn't know what bedroom pop was. I was just making a type of music that I enjoy composing. Then, people started commenting, “Brazilian bedroom pop.” It wasn't planned.”
“I make what I like to listen to and what my heart tells me to do at that moment - I don't know if that's correct. There's not a right way to do art, right?” he says. After messages from the public, Matheus started to research the bedroom pop genre and wanted to understand what was happening in the Brazilian scene. At the time, there were very few artists exploring the genre nationally.
A self-taught musician since childhood, the singer explains that he got a guitar when he was 9 years old and developed a skill with videos on the Internet: “I used to go to Cifra Club and I spent hours studying.” Today, the artist plays about 15 instruments, according to him. For a while, he felt the necessity of producing, and, four years ago, he started to study musical production.
With the pandemics, he was able to lean on his debut album - and was able to perfect the composition and technique, “I felt inspired, maybe due to that. I was at home for too long, so I tried to evolve and practice a lot - either the production quality or the compositions. Even in the same environment, my perception of the world wasn't the same.”
“The record is just in Portuguese, but with an alternative bedroom pop sound to it. This is a trial album. There's plenty of bedroom pop but I also tried to bring the quality that Lo-fi used to have. I really enjoy seeing duality facing each other, I think it's amazing how Lo-fi and Hi-fi go together.”, says the singer.
