Multimedia electronic music act Mass Movement launch their self-produced debut EP ‘Bringing the Funk…’ on 26th April 2010.
A collection of syncopated funk grooves are peppered with a wry humour and weaved into intense polyrhythmic layers of percussion. Punchy bass and strident rhythm guitar are wrapped around slices of warped, near-unrecognisable samples and melodious synthesizers, making ‘Bringing the Funk…’ an essential purchase.
The Leeds-based duo effortlessly combine propulsive beats with catchy melodies and effected layers of noise, determinedly refusing categorisation. Live, Mass Movement use cutting edge software and hardware that enables their songs to be remixed on the spot and be enhanced by conceptual and thought-provoking live visuals, which promises a flexible, exciting and different experience with each show. Their music is reminiscent of Hot Chip’s interweaved drum patterns and dance sensibilities, conceptual themes demonstrate Kraftwerk’s influence and Talking Heads’ nervy funk pervades throughout. Brilliantly creative, Mass Movement deliver the sound and imagination expected from electronic music today.
Later in 2010 Mass Movement will release a second EP called ‘…and Opening the Trapdoors of Chance’, which will display a more esoteric, emotional sound whilst retaining their eclectic influences. Their debut album will follow in 2011.
