Biography
Martin was born in Overschie, the Netherlands 1946. Yes after the war. His family migrated to Australia, Tasmania… when he was 15 years old and has been there ever since. What a beautiful place this is.
Learned to play guitar at 18 and soon owned an original Fender Stratocaster and played rhythm in a band. Typical to the Shadows at the time. Learned all the parts (bass, lead etc.) and taught the others the music.
At the age of 20/21 was called up to serve in the Army where in his spare time away from home learned the Classical Guitar.
The Shadows had great influence, using the Strat…..great sound.
For the Classical Guitar, Segovia, John Williams, Charley Byrd are great artists to follow.
