Biography
Martin Byrne is a songwriter / composer / music producer / sound designer from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He writes in a variety of styles and has composed folk, rock, metal, pop, hip hop and all sorts of other noise based genres with and for a variety of people. Martin currently writes for theatre and digital media. He is 34, medium build, has a full beard, likes warm hugs and long walks.
A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Martin creates songs in his studio using his voice, electric bass, ukulele, drums, trumpet, laptop, keyboard, synth and whatever technology or toys are lying around. His first instrument was guitar, which he was given on his 15th Birthday. Between 14 and 16 Martin made a lot of recordings on 4-track and cassette - "albums" which he shared with friends, and anyone who would listen (and forced upon anyone who wouldn't).
At 16 Martin bought his first PC and electronic music tools, entering the digital recording world. From here on Martin wrote and recorded music that was usually always incorporating both analog/acoustic and electronic elements.
Martin performed as a singer and guitarist around Belfast from 1996 onwards. He has played in many different bands, usually heavy alternative rock, folk or on his own playing electronic music.
Since 2011 he has written and self-released over 400 songs, with his Song A Day For A Year and Song A Week For A Year projects.
Previous to this Martin has released two albums as Doctor Lilt.
Martin occasionally performs in various improvisational ensembles and bands.
