“Better Than That” is the 9th track of Marina's third studio album FROOT (2015). The track is a spiritual successor to Electra Heart’s “Homewrecker”, detailing Marina’s perception of a woman who fits into the ‘homewrecker’ archetype.
It’s one of the first songs that Marina wrote for the record and it represented a shift in her direction that set the mood for the rest of the songs. It was described as “sassy” and “a future heavy-hitter, doused in wah-wah axes and classic funk and rock delvings” by The Line of Best Fit. Marina described it as “Classic Rock!”
In a Q&A, Marina said “Better Than That” is musically speaking her favourite song on the album and she listens to it “very regularly”.
This song is speculated by fans to be written for ex-friend Ellie Goulding and her short-lived relationship to Greg James, a long time friend of Diamandis.
