Margie Hendrix was a member of the girl group The Cookies when Atlantic Records made then the original Raelettes backing Ray Charles. The Cookies were a rather bland girl group. Working with Charles transformed them. Hendrix was a standout with an incredibly dynamic voice featuring a powerful yet pleasing growl and the ability to stretch for notes like Aretha or young Michael Jackson. Standout singles were studio cut "The Night Time Is The Right Time" and a live version of The 5 Royales' "Tell The Truth." She died of a heroin overdose before she could launch much of a solo career after breaking with Charles pesonally and professionally.
