“I’m Trying (Not Friends)” is a song originally written for season 2 of Apple TV+ comedy Trying), originally set to premiere 21 May 2021. Peters decided it wasn’t the vibe, calling it “chaotic, bitchy, and passive-aggressive, and really flawed” for Apple Music. A fast-paced, lyrically dynamic song, it sees Peters insisting that at least she’s trying to be friends with her ex, while her ex is not.

The first verse and the first chorus were actually written for Trying , but it wasn’t the vibe for it, so I took it back. This song is chaotic and bitchy and passive-aggressive and really flawed."
