Biography
Möthersky is an instrumental band which focuses on repetitive and hypnotic structures, dark moods, dissonant noise, and nostalgia. Conceived originally by Richard Vergez in 2008 as an outlet for his more rhythmic and post-punk based compositions. Vergez also records under the name Drowning the Virgin Silence, which is primarily an experimental ambient project. Möthersky touches on elements of krautrock (Mother Sky is actually a song by the German band Can), post-punk (early New Order, Cabaret Voltaire, 4AD, Factory) and instrumental surf (dark, reverb drenched twang, not the Beach Boys.) Eager to step outside of the studio, Vergez has enlisted fellow dark music enthusiast/non-musician Kelvin Mitchell to join the ranks, helping out on bass and second synth for the live setting, and recording a new handful of songs straight to tape with no overdubs.
