I do not know the genesis of the scene either, but I can say that this song is unquestionably shoegaze. It sorta depends on your definition on where dream pop ends and shoegaze begins in order to say who was first. Spacemen 3 combined the styles of dream pop, space rock and psychedelic music in a way that was incredibly influential to developing the shoegaze sound, but I'm not sure if I would personally call their early work shoegaze in the same way that MBV's, Pale Saints', Medicine's and Chapterhouse's music is. Despite whether Loop is a Spacemen 3 tribute act or not, Loop definitely were the first of the two bands to have that distinct sound. Either way, the Jesus & Mary Chain had them both beat.

The origins of Shoegazing...hmmm.......I am not claiming to know the genesis of the scene but if Loop are being cited then it is worth remembering that Spacemen3 did a fair amount of shoegazing in their time (mainly because their drug of choice made it hard to hold anyother pose for too long) and Loop - great as they are - are pretty much a Spacemen3 tribute act.

I'd imagine this track to be the perfect background music for the observation of serious volcanic activity. The guitars mercilessly catapult tones of relentless heat like a volcano erupts spurts of unyielding lava and spits of fire into a smoke-filled atmosphere. Viscious stuff from a very good band in my opinion.
