Biography
Krakdown started in 1985 playing shows mostly around Long Island and CBGB's. The first Krakdown recording was actually a live recording that they did when on a trip to play Montreal with the Cro-Mags. The record was entitled New York Montreal Connection and included Krakdown's song Freedom. The line up at this time included Chris Notaro of Crumbsuckers fame on vocals, Rich Dowling on guitar, Bob Cuomo on bass and Phil on drums. It wasn't long after the Montreal trip that the band dispanded. By the middle of the following year Rich had decided to get the band back together with a different line up. He teamed up with Jason Surface who sang and Damon Tillman who played bass. The three then decided to start auditioning drummers but were having a tough time finding someone who knew the style. Jason got John's number Duane at Some Records and after jamming for the first week they all knew it was a good match. The first show of the newly incarnated Krakdown was at the Right Track Inn on Long Island with Gorilla Biscuits and Youth Defense League. They also played a huge show for the release of Token Entry's record on Positive Force Records. Everything was working out great and this lineup actually went on to play tons of shows all over New York , Pennsylvania and Washington DC . They recorded a demo and had a song featured on The Way It Was LP released by Revelation Records. By the end of 1988 the group wanted to start getting more serious and plan a tour but Jon had a decent job at the time and couldn't afford to take the time off. The band decided to once again dispand but would reform one more time in 1989. The 1989 Krakdown had the band's friend J-Bird replace Damon on bass. They played a bunch of more shows and recorded an EP on Common Cause Records. They also had a song on a Thrasher Magazine compilation. It wasnt long after this that Jason decided to leave and was replaced by Eddie, a long time friend of the band. They went on to play a few shows with Eddie but by that time everyone was starting to lose interest. The band slowly stopped practicing and John eventually moved on to play in the hugely popular ska band The Scofflaws and Richie started playing with a surf rock band called The Riptiles.
