Biography
Kei Ogura was born in Ueno, Tokyo in January 1944.
After graduating from the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Law in 1967, Ogura joined Nippon Kangyo Bank (presently Mizuho Bank).
During his 25 year career as a banker and prior to his resignation in 1993, he held positions including Bank Manager of the Hamamatsu Branch and Financial Service Director at the head office, amongst others.
Seeking to expand his horizons, in 1994 he re-entered the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Law and later Faculty of Letters studying in the field of Philosophy and Religion.
He continued his study at graduate school and received a Master’s degree in Philosophy in 2000.
During those years he also wrote songs, and in 1971 he released his first album “Seishun, Sabaku no Shonen”.
His third album “Houkou” became a million seller.
Since that time, as a popular song writer, he has composed a number of songs for various singers including Akira Fuse, Masatoshi Nakamura, Takao Horiuchi, Hibari Misora, etc.
His style has proven consistently popular over the years and many of his compositions including “Cyclamen no Kaori”, “Oretachi no Tabi”, “Yumeshibai”, “Itoshiki Hibi”, “Ai Sansan”, etc.
have became big hits. He still energetically pursues his creative ambitions while actively nurturing young talented artists.
