Biography

JEZ_EBEL is a Norwegian singer and songwriter. Her name is an homage to Phoenician princess Jezebel, a biblical figure who is in a religious context often characterized as a symbol of sin and moral transgression.

She first started releasing music in 2017. Being an introverted teenager at the time, her aim was to utilize music as a creative outlet to express her previously neglected emotions and to rebel against her environment, as growing up in a religious household led to struggles with her femininity and sexuality. Despite declaring herself a feminist at a very young age, her surroundings led to her carrying an internalized shame relating to her womanhood.

Her early output is mainly made up of demos, drafts and short songs, being inspired by artists on the internet releasing their music on platforms such as SoundCloud in unfinished form. Her newer output, signified by the release of her first EP, Blossom, is much more polished but still maintains its intimate DIY aspect.

JEZ_EBEL's music often tackles topics such as sexuality, relationships and vulnerability, with the production often being lo-fi and taking on the characteristics of alternative and bedroom pop.
