Biography
J. Davis (the J is for Joey) grew up in a musical family in Oklahoma, getting his first drum set (a Ludwig five-piece) at the age of 10, and inheriting a love of jazz/funk fusion and new sounds from his Dad. He has cited sampling pioneers Art Of Noise and Thomas Dolby as inspirations for his electronic pursuits.
Davis's tracks achieve a very unique, natural, and balanced fusion of jazz and electronic elements that transcends the innumerable stylistic subgenres generally associated with jungle. It is not enough to call this drum and bass, this is music and listening to it reveals a gift for true composition and depth far beyond the reach of most drum and bass producers. You'll know when you realize that you can't tell whether the drums are live or sampled.
