Ilja Glusgal was born on the 24th of July 1921 in Berlin, Germany and was an accomplished jazz drummer, singer, entertainer and comedy actor during the 1940's and 1950's with later television work lasting until the mid 1960's. He sang both in German and English and among his better known musical recordings are "Angelina", "Chi Baba", "Bitte ein Bit!", "Bongo, Bongo", "Mein Roter Bruder Wohnt In Arizona" and "Sensation Am Broadway". His record labels included Amiga, Bitburger, Columbia, Electrola, His Master's Voice, Imperial, Metrophon, Odeon, Parlophone, Philips and Regina.

He worked with many including Michael Jary, Ralph Maria Siegel, Bully Buhlan, Lubbo D'Orio, the RBT Orchestra, Walter Dobschinski, Kurt Henkels, the AMIGA Star Band, Johannes Fehring , Kurt Abraham , Heinz Kretzschmar , Adolf Steimel and the Heinz Becker Barquintett.

Films included Flower of Hawaii (1953), Geld aus der Luft (1954) and Saison in Oberbayern (1956).

He worked in Germany and the USA and died on April 17th, 1983 in San Francisco, California, USA.
