Biography
Jason McLaughlin (I'm Not Dead/I'm Not A Robot) was born as an infant and grew into a fully grown man after a while. Jason began to perform as I'm Not Dead/I'm Not A Robot in June of 2010. He plays a Washburn Augusta acoustic-electric on stage through the SWR California Blonde acoustic instrument amp. Before the sound goes out of the amp, it usually goes through a pedal or two, most notably an Ibanez DE7 Delay. He has a mysterious unmarked guitar for home practice, and it is believed by some to be from a secret government project in the 70s. I'm Not Dead/I'm Not A Robot is on the Minneapolis, Minnesota-based label Old Fashioned Records, also home to El Le Faunt And His Traveling Circus, The Cantankerous Folk, The Broken Bicycles, and Naptime Nate, among others.
The music of I'm Not Dead/I'm Not A Robot concentrates on philosophical and psychological self-awareness. The songs are best described as reverse lullabies, pretty (and noisy) songs intended to wake the audience up rather than lull them to sleep. His lyrics, unique style of genre switching, and unusual vocal melodies are the most outstanding differentiators in a singer-songwriter field saturated with similar-sounding artists.
The first official I'm Not Dead/I'm Not A Robot release was the "Tired Of Being Quiet" EP, released 1/11/11. It is a 6-track EP with 2 hidden live bonus tracks. The EP was placed up for sale on Bandcamp for a $5 minimum, or $1 per track. The song "Six Seconds Old" was featured as a free download.
