Biography

There are two bands with the name Headquarters, one is a UK math-rock band on Unlabel, the other an American indie band with a capital Q - HeadQuarters.

UK:

Headquarters are a Kent-based math-rock / experimental quintet, who grew from the ashes of The Kicks (of Royal Tunbridge Wells, no less) and Captain Black.

With a sound somewhere in the ballpark of The Jesus Lizard and Big Black, they're building on their live reputation, having previously played with Charlottefield, Bilge Pump, Cat On Form, Hey Colossus, Ack Ack Ack abd Trencher etc.

They released their debut 7" 'Let's Solve Some Crime' in 2004 and have since released exclusive tracks on all of the Unlabel compilations from 'un23' onwards.

Their long awaited debut album 'Booker One Time' was released on limited edition heavyweight vinyl in beautiful artwork on Unlabel in July 2007 and is available now from: unlabel.net

HeadQuarters began in a dank rehearsal space on 8th avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC. Through the stained windows and smoke filled room, the world took on a surreal hue in their power-pop filled vision. Guitars rushed with Wha and Phase, mixing with a driving rythym section and sprinkled with moog-ish synth landscapes that traced the skyline of the city, transforming it into Shangrila. Thick vocal harmonies as commanding as the mighty Oz permeated and a sound was born that is as punchy as much as it is paraphenelic. Sound perplexing? It aint.

In September 2005, HeadQuarters released their self-produced debut EP “Get Your Head On” (Group 4 Music) wich Amplifier magazine described as “jamming power pop into new wave and run it through their neo-psychedelic carburetor.”, declaring “Calling Robert Pollard: your new favorite band is here.” Since then the band have toured across the U.S. coasts and Canada highlighted by Little Steven’s Underground Garage’s Rolling Rock & Roll tour at Irving Plaza in NYC and a triumphant show in Austin TX during the 2006 SXSW conference. HeadQuarters’ song “Tunnel Vision” appears as track 6 of 33 on the UK compilation “Psychedelica Vol. 1” with the Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Electric Prunes, The High Dials, The Black Angels, plus many more, recieving reviews in Billboard, a blast of underground blogs and a 4 star rating in the UK magazine Uncut.

The forthcoming EP: “O and O” (Vibratone records), sees HeadQuarters paired up with famed producer Kramer (Galaxie 500, Urge Overkill, Butthole Surfers, Shimmydisc, etc.) at the mixing & mastering (with Alan Douches) controls, capturing the sweaty, smokey, sonic landscape the band created in that dank rehearsal room from the get-go. With a sound that elludes the neo-psyche, garage, and power-pop monickers as something all their own, HeadQuarters is poised to show the rest of the world what NYC and Shangrila already knows; they are the band with the style, the sound, the soul, and most importantly, the talent to transform their musical vision into a lasting reality.

WHAT THE PRESS ARE SAYING:
"Combining crunchy riffage, burbling synthetics, head shaking harmonies and manic pop melodicism, HeadQuarters jam power pop into new wave and run it through their neo-psychedelic carburetor. Calling Robert Pollard: your new favorite band is here" -Amplifier

"Get Your Head On by HeadQuarters is probably the best mod record released in the 21st century - without sounding the least bit derivative or clichéd."
-Dean Ramos The Sentimentalist

"Instead of simply trying to replicate 1966 or 1978 (they even have prominent synthesizer on their songs), they put their main focus on making their songs strong and memorable… and that they are." –Michael Lynch, Uppers.org

"Rock and Roll is going through a power pop phase. Remember The Raspberries, The Pez Band, The Romantics? Add the New York Quintet HeadQuarters." -The Boston Globe

"In today's Mod clubs, DJs come armed with an arsenal of authentic '60s records. Bands like the Mojo Filters and HeadQuarters perform. Girls and guys dress to the nines to dance, drink and schmooze." -Solvej Schou, AP, MSNBC, Yahoo Headline News

"HeadQuarters have an affable charm, and their music will make you want to sing along. As Get Your Head On reminds us, now would be a perfect time to dance – or sing, or just plain rock the fuck out – whatever time it is, wherever we are." -Splendid.com

The band with the buzz, native New York mod rockers HeadQuarters are dedicated to updating the sound of the Jam-crossed with early Who, and they do it well. Lead by Charles Wallace, the band has a 20 minute short film broadcasting currently on the Sundance channel entitled American Mod. I always thought my teen years was an American version of Quadrophenia. Any band who invokes the La's have gotta be fun. -The Village Voice

"HeadQuarters are on to something with their melding of pop hooks and harder '60's arrangements". -Time Out New York

"The best band from New York since the Velvet Underground" -Transistor Club, Los Angeles

"Owing more to psychedelia than anything by Small Faces, Headquarters casts a wide net over a variety of pop tricks, reeling in most of them to create sunny, energizing nuggets." -Philadelphia weekly

"This is a tight and powerful groove. Modern freak beat for a new cross-Atlantic modernist generation. The Hives meet The Chords and give us a taste of West Side glory. A quality offering no question." -Soho Strut (UK)
