Biography
Gresha Schuilling was was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka . She moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia when she was about 8 since her dad worked for the Inter Continental Hotel Chain.
It was here that Gresha started on her music. The Continental School where she attended harnessed Gresha’s talent. By the time she was twelve she had to compose her own works, know how to use a 4-track, as well as mix music on Cubase. It was in fact at one of these music classes that she discovered she had a voice. “ while I was trying to imitate Cher singing Walking in Memphis” says Gresha.
Back in Sri Lanka as a part of her IGCSE’s she had to sit for the Royal Music Academy’s Grade 5 theory and practical exams. She chose Piano and Singing.
Gresha says “ I am inspired by all types of music, from baroque to grunge, from the koto to the distorted guitar and from the Ink Spots to Shaun Kingston.
About a year ago she decided to make an album in the Sinhalese language, the majority national language of Sri Lanka. The album, which could not be classified into a particular genre, would have quality music. It was made with co - producer Paul Marie Mendis who runs Mediaeye Music in the United Kingdom . His father Nimal Mendis wrote the hit song “Ganga Addara” in Sri Lanka which is on the album together with three other songs of his.
She also recorded the Chrismas single “ Cold Cold Night” for Mediaeye Music Another hit of Nimal’s in English “Yesterday Today Tomorrow” and the Sinhala version of this song “ Nim Him Sewva” was recorded for the Sinhala album. It is a kind of eternal love song.
In 2008 Gresha recorded the song for Autism that was written by Nimal Mendis for Ivan Corea of the UK Autism Foundation. It was featured on a CNN interview of Ivan for the United Nation’s World Autism Day. Autism is a disorder more common than Down Syndrome or cystic fibrosis and is 4 times more in boys than in girls.
Gresha wants to use use her talent and opportunities to do everything she can to increase the awareness of Autism.
