Gojira won the grammys but I heard they didn't air it because the mainstream media hates metal and refuses to show it. Typical... been this way since MTV started airing more reality shows and cut out metal music videos..

yepp..... they played snippets of all the songs in every other category except for best metal performance. they way the grammys treat their only metal category is gross.

So as to not offend the over-sensitive folks who censor words like k*ll and d**th these days, like just say the words kill and death ffs. Every person who has ever lived on this planet eventually dies! People believing the common trope of metal is dArK, therefore eViL and sAtAniC -- is why we don't see metal on the TV. Symbolism in mainstream pop and rap videos? All a-okay. >.>

That's interesting considering MTV aired Marilyn Manson, Korn and others. But yeah I guess the old metal=evil/satanic is still around. Though some of it is, Gojira isn't one of them.

Remembrance (live) was the first song I heard from them, at the time I thought that breakdown at the end of the song was insane. For me, it's the best breakdown they have in a song!

Seeing bands like Bolt Thrower in Gojira's similar artists gives me hope that old school death metal won't die. And people think Gojira is overrated and overproduced. https://www.last.fm/music/Gojira/+similar?page=9

Judging from your profile.. you've barely listened to them and therefore cannot judge. They're amazing.

Seeing them receive the deserved recognition it's so satisfying. They deserve more, but still a really great step not just for them, but for heavy metal in general

Gojira being nominated for the Grammys is fantastic for the metal community. They're going to be the best mainstream metal band out there bringing more people to progressive and death metal. 🤘

Когда начинал слушать казалось чем то крутым , а когда прошли годы ,столько музыки послушал ,то уже не так интересны и экспериментальны ,грустно всё это...

Just saw them live with Spiritbox and Korn in September 25th they killed it. The crowd was a little lifeless but otherwise I was having an amazing time. See them live if you can!!

The heaviest band I’ve heard from metal out of all those I’ve tried listening too. Like being crushed by a million whales from outer space.

Not Death Metal, good at mimicking or paying homage, but might as well call Slipknot "Death Metal" at that point if you think aggression and growls is all that it takes. Don't counter, I live and breath Death Metal and its history/story; just accept they are a mainstream palpable extreme metal band that would make soccer mommies plug their ears with their indexes and that's that.

Yeah not entirely Death Metal, I consider them mostly Progressive. I think they're a pretty good starting point for those just starting out listening to Metal as many mainstream Metal (if you can even call some of it Metal) is just boring/lame compared to the real stuff.

I've never really paid much attention to these guys but I have to respect them for bringing back satanic panic. Metal is so back

I think he is referring to the reaction of the event, rather than Gojira, right after it was streamed I saw some randoms on twitter say it was satanic for some reason

The people who were originally taken in by the "Satanic Panic" boogyman never actually cared if something was satanic or actually harmful. It was all vibes and sensationalism. Same kind of crowd thought Pokemon was satanic in the 90s too.

It looks like it did. The listeners on here also spiked. Granted I never really listened to them much or watched the Olympics but I'm glad to hear something other than whatever is considered metal is being hyped even if the rest of the ceremony got blasted by Christians. Gotta keep the hype up. Definitely will have these guys in my listening rotation now. https://loudwire.com/gojira-spotify-listeners-before-after-olympics/

Never been that into this band, but I'm glad the first metal band to play at the Olympics was an ACTUAL metal band, instead of some hard rock or pop-metal crap. Going through their discography now, and I enjoy pretty much everything from 2012 and before.
