Biography
Fakhritdin Sadikov (Uzbek: Faxriddin Sodiqov; Russian: Фахритдин Садиков, sometimes romanised as Fakhruddin Sadikov, Fakhriddin Sodiqov or Fakhriddin Sadiqov, 1914-1977) was the founder of the Uzbek school of instrumental music. He played various traditional instruments such as the dutar and chang (Uzbek zither). He was a student of Yunus Rajabi.
In 1929 he graduated from Tashkent School for classic music, in 1946-1948 he studied classical composition at the preparatory fin. Tashkent conservatory. Abdorahim Hamidov, who eventually became Sadikov's successor, recalled his concept of music being completely overturned by Sadikov when he entered the Tashkent Conservatory in 1972. At their first meeting, Hamidov played one of the virtuosic pieces in which he excelled. Sadikov acted impressed and congratulated him. "Then," recounted Hamidov, "he took my dutar, loosened the strings by a fourth, and started to play so beautifully that I thought I'd pass out. His music was like honey or cream. I worked with him on the dutar for three years, which were for me like twenty years of study."
