Biography

Fabian Cooke (born 1963 in Kingston, Jamaica) is a reggae musician. Today he is based in California, United States.

Cooke has been a part of the music industry from an early age. By the age of 10 he was already recording and performing for clubs and concerts in Jamaica. Fabian then pursued his studies in classical music as a teenager at the Jamaica School of Music. Upon moving to the United States in 1980, he established himself in the New York music scene for eight years prior to moving to Los Angeles. Not only is Fabian an acclaimed musician (endorsed as one of the top reggae bassists) but he has also established a diverse career as a songwriter, producer, and recording engineer.

The diversity of Fabian’s career as a songwriter and producer can be witnessed in the variety of production/publishing companies which he has been associated with. Among these are Walt Disney Music, The Jackson Family, Faze-4-Entertainment, and The Groove Institutewhere he established a professional relationship with many notable performers.

A significant member of the reggae scene, Fabian is known for his work on the Bob Marley album Soul Almighty and with Born Jamericans on Delicious Vinyl. Throughout his career, Fabian has worked for such record labels as Warner Bros., Sony Music, MCA, RCA, Interscope, East-West Records, Epic, Island Records, Jad Records, and Columbia, to name a few.

Fabian’s contributions to feature film soundtracks are numerous and significant. His most notable work in this area includes producing the single “Hakuna Matata” from the Lion King (Rhythm of the Pride Lands) soundtrack and co-writing/producing, with Gary Becks, “Have a Good Time” from Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion.

Not the least of his accomplishments is Fabian’s work as a staff engineer with Echo Sounds and Paramount recording studios in Los Angeles, CA. The Dog Pound, Montel Jordan, The Alcoholics,
Bunny Wailer, Third World and Tone Loc are a few of the artists he has worked on projects for. He has
also spent a great deal of time touring the world with such names as Marky Mark, Super Cat, Steel
Pulse, The Wailing Souls, Eek-A-Mouse, The Wailers, Big Mountainand many more.

From reggae to rap to feature soundtracks, Fabian has participated in and been a dynamic contributor to every area of the music industry. His various talents have allowed him to play a significant role in the creation and production of much influential modern music.
