Ezra Jacobs' Diffusiedrang .. running time 54:53 min .. CDr .. 2008
Made out of manipulated shortwave radio recordings, this album focuses on contrast, or rather on the lack of it. Not so much as in loud against soft or dense against sparse, but more in the sense of structured sound versus unstructured noise & interference, and the blurry line that seperates the two.
Many of the recordings were made during storm or heavy rain and these weather conditions gave a certain ambiguous quality to the sound, obscuring the original transmissions to the point that the listener has to fill in the blanks. The manipulations of the reordings and the way of arranging them emphasized this ambiguity, making it hard to distinguish between what was changed by radio influence, what was changed by the manipulations, and what the original transmission was in the first place.
The album consists of two parts, each made up of three pieces: Vlies, Vlak and Vlijm in the first part, and Schemel, Schraal and Schacht in the second.
