The brilliance of this song really stems from how deconstructive of their own sound it is: You expect them to follow up the rising crescendo with a patented EITS climax of thunderous cymbals and cannon-like drums and a wall of guitar reverb, but instead it drops down to something that's more akin to some form of melancholic indie pop or something. I think it's rather representative of the album as a whole, moving inward rather than outward, and for that reason it really is the most significant release they've put out in years.
