Biography
Emotion Coder is a creative project of Victor Marak formed in Kolkata, India in 2012, where he explores different dimensions of obscure electronic music infused with a lot of feel power.
Victor Marak is a computer security researcher and electronic musician who spares nothing in terms of technology to get the sound he wants, admittedly keeping the workflow very streamlined. He started tinkering with electronics and software, music theory, music composition and piano music as early as 9 years old and has fond memories 'inventing' things and making detailed reports of them. That aptitude and zero fear of technology enabled him to master the craft of music theory/music technology by his mid-teens.
Growing up in 90's Metropolitan India in the VIP Government residences, using the most basic of audio equipment, his uncle's comprehensive 70's rock vinyl collection, imported tapes and cds from the states and curated purchases from the 90's Indian cassette market; deep exposure to french music, coupled with a home environment of exposure to strong Indian sounds like Rabindra Sangeet- gave him the ideal fodder for experimentation and composition in the sonic realm. Post college, he became part of Kolkata (India) based electronic outfit Tablatronics (temporarily defunct) making a melange of western sounds combined with East Indian sounds from his hometown with a focus on live performances with Indian percussion, keyboards, turntables, rapping and singing.
He is now pursuing his own projects (still has a day job…) with a firm focus on the underbelly sonic inspirations that percolate his excursions.
