Dr. Calculus (full name Dr. Calculus MDMA) was mainly the brainchild of UK singer-songwriter Stephen Duffy. Involving numerous guest musicians (most notably, Roger Freeman of Pigbag) the sole album "Designer Beatnik" was released in 1986.
Two singles were released, "Perfume from Spain" and "Programme 7", effectively foretelling the skewed sample-based electronic dance music that was to become popular in the late '80's/early 90's.
After being unavailable for 21 years all of Dr. Calculus's material is now available for download as of 9th July 2007 from various legal download sites. This follows suit with most of Stephen Duffy's albums after his successful writing partnership with Robbie Williams raised the singer-songwriter's profile to never-before-reached heights.
