Biography

Montana songwriter David A. Thompson publishs his music with Woody Overtones Music. His critically-acclaimed 2005 release with singer Julie Elkins (“My Feet Won’t Miss This Ground”) showcases what Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine calls “quality songwriting with melodic variety and lyrical depth,” and “provides a compelling medium for…emotive singing.”

Thompson is one of the founding members of “trailblazing” bluegrass band Kane’s River, as well as co-producer of the nationally-known Fishing Music project (David Thompson & Ben Winship), and occasionally part of the Growling Old Men Trio with Ben Winship and guitarist John Lowell.

New York's David Thompson is well known in many music circles around town for his multi octave range as well as his writing and showmanship.

During his career David has toured England, Scotland, Whales, the British Islands, and Australia; performing in some of the worlds most famous theaters and opera houses. Among them are Westminster Abbey, and the Melbourne and Sidney opera house.
David has shared the stage at New York cities Carnegie Hall with World Famous tenor Luciano Pavarotti, sung backup for greats like Peggy King, and performed with the Philadelphia opera company in such performances as “La Boheme" and was under the direction of Ricardo Muti. He was a regular in the chorus of the Philadelphia Ballet annual “The Nutcracker” at the Academy Of Music. He is also featured on many recordings of the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale recorded in America and abroad.

A graduate of “Creative and Performing Arts” in Philadelphia, where he continued his study of voice and instrumental music both in school and privately. David has been privileged to attend master classes taught by such professionals as Peter Nero of the “Philly Pops”, and share in performances with jazz legends like Trutti Pip and R&B sensation Boyz II Men.

While in school David joined a theater company at The Balch Institute in Philadelphia. There he studied acting and improvisation with many accomplished artist; as well as dance under the renowned Carla Washington. He was featured in performances throughout the city and even stared in an independent film. His final performance with the company was a specially requested solo for U.S. Senator Bill Bradley at his book release party held at the convention center in Philadelphia.
