Biography

David Gallienne originally hails from Somerset, England. He now resides on the island of Guernsey. He was born January 8th 1975 and has been a lifelong fan of music, especially of what is now termed “Classic Rock”. His first musical memory was hearing Whitesnake’s “Long Way From Home” playing on the radio when he was just 4 years old. He was always fascinated by the guitar, but didn’t actually start playing the instrument until he was 17.

A brief timeline of David's journey, so far:

Early 1992
Mark II - David's 1st band. They performed several shows in Guernsey, making their live debut at an outdoor festival, at Vale Castle. Mark II also recorded a 4 track demo in 1992, before disbanding.

Late 1992 - 1994
David joins major Guernsey CCM Rock band Double Edge.
The band recorded an album "She's Not There" in July of 1993, which was released later that year. Double Edge received their first radio airplay courtesy of John Randall's "Randall's Revenge" show, on Guernsey station Island FM. The song featured was "New Age Movement". They performed many shows in Guernsey, including performances at the Trailblaze festival and another outdoor festival at Vale Castle. The Vale Castle gig was brodcast live on Island FM. The band performed in Jersey at the beginning of 1994, before calling it a day shortly afterwards.

1994 - 1999
David forms the band that was to become State Of Mind, with longtime friend Simon Shrive. The band initially went under a few different names, including Bamboozled (?!) and Shellshock, before settling on State Of Mind, mid 1995.

In 1995, as Shellshock, they headlined the prestigious and much missed "Market Rock" show. Just after the Market Rock show there was a change of line-up. In came Brett Le Sauvage on Drums and Bassist extraordinaire Ross Falla, (formerly of legendary Guernsey rockers Sugarslam).
As State Of Mind, they performed extensively in Guernsey from 1995 until 1999 and had many memorable shows at venues such as, Fermain Tavern, Beau Sejour, Buzz Bar, The Helmsman, Vale Castle, Dorset Arms, Happy Landings, Taylors, and on the balcony at the Vazon Bay, to name just a few.

In August '97 David recorded solo versions of 4 original songs that S.O.M. had been performing. As David explained in 2006:
"I recorded 4 tracks over 2 days in August 1997. Everything you hear on the songs was performed "live" by myself. The songs were recorded very crudely in my bedroom using a standard hi-fi with a "Mic" input and "Aux" input. Each instrument was performed live onto cassette then played back through the "Aux" input, whilst recording the next part live through the "Mic" input. The end production isn't too bad, when you consider how it was recorded and bearing in mind that i didn't have a clue what i was doing!! Listening back to it now, there are quite a few obvious mistakes in there, but i like the raw sound of it."
This was released as the "Broken Promises" EP.

In November 1997, State Of Mind were approached to participate in a charity CD called Ballistic. They duly went into ODFH Studios to record the Gallienne/Shrive composition "Heat Of The Night". The band continued gigging until 1999. Their last performance was at Happy Landing, on August 11th 1999, supporting Peter Frampton. Various live recordings exist and some of these may be made available in the future.

2000 - 2006
David retired away from the local music scene after the break up of State Of Mind and gave up playing altogether. In May 2006 ARFM featured State Of Mind's recording of "Heat Of The Night" on a couple of their shows. A couple of weeks later ARFM also featured "Broken Promises" from the EP of the same name on Ben Fletcher's show. The resulting interest in these old songs gave David the feeling that maybe he should start making music again. He dusted off his Les Pauls and began to play again.

2007 - 2009
David recorded a well received version of Thin Lizzy's classic "Don't Believe A Word" which was released for free download from Last.FM and MySpace.
David is now in the process of recording more songs, with a view to releasing an album later on in 2009.
