Biography
DJ Tommy is undoubtedly Hong Kong's premier scratchmaster. Born in Hong Kong in 1971, he started DJing at the age of 15, getting into hip-hop music because the beats were fun to play with and they allowed him to work on his mixing skills. By 1991, at the age of 19, he was crowned the Hong Kong DMC DJ Champion. He won that title again the next year, and went on to compete in the Technics World DJ Championship at the Ministry of Sound in London, where he came No.8 in the world. He was the Hong Kong DMC DJ Champion again in 1996, which took him to the Technics World DJ Championship in Italy Rimini. Tommy did what was then thought inconceivable for a little-known DJ from Hong Kong: He became the No.2 scratchmaster in the world. Since then, Tommy has played at gigs all around the world, including Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Korea. Even in 1998, he was flown to Moscow to DJ at The Olympic Youth Games. He has been booked to play alongside great international spinners and acts like DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, DJ Food and the Prodigy.
DJ Tommy is also a renowned producer, working with local artists like Jan Lamb. He was specially asked to remix the "Sing It Back" track for the UK alternative group, Moloko, as a bonus song for their CD's Hong Kong release. This marked the first time a local DJ released a re-mixed song for an international act. And as if all his world-first achievements weren't enough, DJ Tommy is also the mixmaster for Hong Kong's only hip-hop outfit, LMF. Besides recording and performing with this 12-member group. In 2002, DJ Tommy discovered the group, FAMA and FAMA joined Color Music Entertainment Ltd. (Founded by DJ Tommy). FAMA released their first EP “Cheng Wing Chi” in 2005 and “Music Tycoon” in 2006 which comes out a conspicuous success. After that, DJ Tommy recommended FAMA to sign a record deal with CMD (Founded by DJ Tommy & Edison Chen) and releasing the big hit CD Album “Feng Sheng Shui Qi” in 2007.
