Biography
Founded in 2010 by songwriters Jonny Hunt and Kelly Gibbs, Children Overboard emerged out of the steel city of Wollongong as a duo hell bent on writing the most irritatingly catchy songs they could manage, and shaking what their mamas gave them.
Sporting one killer mullet, and a suitcase full of polka-dot dresses, Children Overboard left their home in search of greener pastures, and landed heads
-down-bums-up in the southern city of Melbourne, sans rhythm section.
The hunt for skins and a set of thick strings quickly commenced, landing the pair in the loving bosom of bassist Vincent Giles – the owner of the most impressive beard this side of the bayou, and Christopher Cameron - the dreamiest drummer west of the Dandenongs.
Children Overboard draw their influences from sources as wide and varied as dynamo soul singer Sharon Jones, Australian rock royalty Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and garage-blues Brits, Little Barrie. The sound sits comfortably in a niche of its own, transitioning easily from sinister ballads, to jumping soul, and the grittiest of blues.
