Biography
Chikako Nakano 中野智香子 (formerly known as 小倉知香子 Chikako Ogura) is a Japanese harpist. Born in Ohara, Kyoto Prefecture, she started playing harp at the age of 13. She graduated from the harp department of Kunitachi College of Music. She studied under Joseph Mornar and Kumiko Inoue. After graduating, she has been active as a harpist who can handle everything from classical music to jazz, regardless of genre. She also taught music teachers, piano and rhythmic classes for 20 years at Amanuma Hinomaru Kindergarten in Suginami Ward, where her mother is the director.
In 1985 she was invited to the "World Harp Congress" in Israel and performed for the first time in the newly produced electric harp. She soon returned to Japan and started a new activity at the electric harp.
Since 1990 she has been providing music therapy for people with dementia and long-term care.
