Biography

Popularity certainly isn't everything, as the members of Buzzkiller will testify. Based in Sydney,Australia Buzzkiller began as a concept in mid 2007 before finalizing its line-up and coming into bloom in the summer of 2009. The culmination of a group of outcasts and social misfits who threw down their gameboys and yugioh cards before exclaiming 'enough!' resulted in the birth of Buzzkiller: a band dedicated to the annihilation of popular music's mediocrity, and set on "killing the buzz" of contemporary, mainstream tripe flooding our airwaves. The people have had enough. The revolution is here.

Buzzkiller combines the powerful, grungy essence of the 90s with alternative undertones to produce a cutting edge, hard-driven sound often spanning across a variety of genres; from up-tempo rock to psychedelic jams. Buzzkiller's music explores the use of heavily effected guitars built upon a foundation of deep, resonating bass tones, polished off with complex, rhythmically flurried drum fills. Their lyrics are laden with profound insights into a world where complacency placates ambition and where the individual is scoffed at for daring to be different.

Currently, Buzzkiller are developing new songs which delve into previously unventured concepts. Among these are "Abort Me", "Self Entitled" and "Fatum Zarathustra"; the complexity and diversity of each signifying an ever-present evolution within the band as a whole, pushing the boundaries of their musical ability and comfort. These songs have been inspired by the revelation and experience of different aspects of life; such as the influence of Friedrich Nietzsche, and coping with the despair of enduring social anxiety.

Buzzkiller have just finished off a long span of gigs throughout Sydney. A 5 track demo is now available for purchase, compiling some recent recordings done at Zapata Studios in Coogee, with some classic live performances of the band's earlier gigs. Please feel free to contact Buzzkiller if you would like to purchase one of these demos, or come see them next time they're live to get you're hands on a copy.

Buzzkiller is the illegitimate offspring of Nick English and Kat Weeks, who found each other on Sydney's underground alternative scene. Sharing a common passion for similar types of music, they decided to begin a project together. Nick is sometimes better known as Lexx Tronixx, the former bassist for cult Sydney group "Dead Inside the Chrysalis", who decided to front Buzzkiller on Vocals and Guitar. Kat's natural grace and attitude, complete with her down-to-earth perspective on life made her the perfect choice as the bassist in the group Thom Harte was recruited as a friend of Nick's to share lead vocals and play guitar; a perfect asset to the band, having come from a musically inclined family and trained in classical piano since the age of 5. Danny Becker completed the line-up as drummer and backing vocalist in early 2009 having more than 10 years experience in training/gigging within such genres as jazz, funk and latin. The fusion of these four individuals has resulted in Buzzkiller being heavily influenced by different perspectives on music with each member constantly thinking outside the box and contributing to the song-writing process. To date, Buzzkiller has gigged far and wide across the State, from the South Coast to Windsor and all the way out to Katoomba, rapidly expanding their fan base in the process. The Band regularly plays throughout Sydney at such venues as The Annandale, Club 77 and the Excelsior with bands including Mz Ann Thropik and Grim Love. Buzzkiller is currently planning to tour Brisbane and Melbourne in early to mid 2011, so keep an ear out for when they may be heading your way.

Buzzkiller is rapidly becoming renowned on the Sydney underground scene, developing a strong following and praise from fellow musicians and music appreciators alike. Buzzkiller revives the energy and passion of the 90s into an era plagued by simplicity and the mundane. For a truly enlightening experience, check out Buzzkiller next time they're playing near you.
