bromide is london-based, essex-born, capri-owning, cat-worshiping, singer-songwriter simon berridge and anyone he can con into playing with him.

bromide plays mid-fi acoustic folk pop. people have likened his music to elvis costello, american music club, the only ones, lloyd cole, robyn hitchcock and kevin ayers. bromide has no idea so will take their word for it.

so far there have been three albums on his own scratchy records label - 'iscariot heart',
'no.space.anymore.even.inbetween.words' and last year’s ‘the trouble with.. bromide’. (* please note the album 'history of the main complaint' listed on this page is by another 'bromide'..)

along the way he’s shared stages with vic chesnutt, mark eitzel, darren hayman, erlend oye, suzanne rhatigan, the fuzztones, the rocks, simon fisher turner, katy carr and NY anti-folker major matt mason.

bromide hosts a regular ‘scratchstock’ night at the 12 bar club, denmark street, london WC2H 8NL. the next one will be sometime july / august.

what people have said about bromide:

"A bedroom mini classic that harks back to Kevin Ayers, discovers Sonic Youth and has chronic lovesickness to spare’ Evening Standard

"Romping, indie-pop blast with lyrics that recalls the heyday of The Only Ones: 'If you were dead I could let go / Not while you’re still breathing though' " The Times

‘Delicate and accomplished indie romanticsm' Time Out

‘A mixture of restless ambition and prolific talent’ The Independent

'Sounds particularly like something Neil Young and Turin Breaks might have collaborated on in the unlikely event they had met at school' Q
