“Strangers” is a song involving themes of depression and mental illness, but it also has an overall message of unity and togetherness, painting a picture that an entire ‘room full of strangers’ could all be having the same struggles and insecurities. The single was released on Wednesday, July 6th.
In an interview with NME, lead singer Oli Sykes went on to explain that this song was a takeaway from him having to share his pain with other people. He goes on to say that the first time he went to rehab, it was a ‘huge help’ to be surrounded by other people that were all suffering from something.

Just to be surrounded by people who were all going through something, I thought, ‘Fuck, this is a human condition. This isn’t just me’. I thought I was insane, I didn’t think I was ever going to get better, and I’m listening to all these people saying all my thoughts, even though they’ve been through things that were different – worse…and obviously sTraNgeRs is that takeaway of like, we’re all just looking for security. We’re all just lost…it’s the first part of getting better, is the fact that you’re gonna have to accept that you’re gonna have to talk about this, no matter how bad what you’ve been through is. If you don’t get it out of your head, it’s never going to go.

Sykes also went on to explain how he believes n/A, LosT and sTraNgeRs are all part of what he calls the ‘rehab trilogy’, with n/A being the group session, LosT being the 1 on 1 therapy session, and sTraNgeRs about the realization of sharing your pain with other people.
