Biography

The rock scene is the breeding ground for a thousand personalities. Tainted rock saints, misfits, and sonic prophets alike, everyone has a story to tell. From broke-down love stories, to southern gospel frenzy, the saints and the sinners all find their voices. For Brian Platt, the voice tells a thousand tales. 10 years ago he was in rehab. 5 years ago he was singing gospel. Now, on the verge of the release of his solo debut Eleven Steps, Platt has a story to tell, with his chronicles of love and transit.

Raised via a small-town conservative religious upbringing, a young Platt escaped to the big city and found himself on a fast track to nowhere. Reaching a low point after a serious brush with the law Brian checked himself into rehab, beginning the path to reinvention and the facing of his personal demons. It was in these years that Platt discovered the catharsis of music. He began to write, rebuild, recover, taking refuge in the rediscovery of his faith and songwriting. He found his voice “in gospel first, because it was natural…therapy as much as anything.” Platt’s indelible talent and authenticity carved him a path of success in the scene. Fast track a few years, and with his songwriting craft well established, Brian now has his sights set on a solo career. “I’m writing songs about where I’m at now, stories about life, love, and loss; themes that everyone can relate to.” Enter Eleven Steps: Platt’s catalytic tales of the perfect imperfection. “I’m in a better place than before…I’m not the pin-up boy for the perfect life, but some of my dreams are now realities.” Platt’s debut album has afforded him the freedom to explore the depths of his story, past and present. From beat-up love songs to gritty rock and roll anthems of resolution, his first single ‘Straightline’ soars with the triumph of someone who has walked theroadfrom ruin to repair, looking “away from the lies, turning to what’s true.”

Cutting no corners, Platt enlisted a stellar cast studio band in the form of Brady Blade (Jewel, Emmy-Lou Harris, Opshop), Nic Manders (Brooke Fraser, Electric Confectionaires), Daniel Irvine (Che Fu) and Simon Moore, producing a sonic tour-de-force that travels from soulful rock swagger to emotionally raw ballads and back again, without sparing the depths of honesty. With the help of his live band ‘86’, Platt exorcises his rock and roll demons, with a delirious onstage delivery that can only be described as a train wreck of Costello flair and the frenzy of the King himself. Despite the raucous antics, the intrigue lies in Brian’s ability to juxtapose the vulnerable and the gutsy, which is actually the sucker punch of his prowess. It’s in his signature ballads that Brian Platt really starts to shine. This is the story of a man who has walked the crossroads and kept his soul. Brian Platt is here to tell the story of the sinner and the saint, and he’s got the voice to make you believe it.
