Blur are an English
alternative rock band that formed in London in 1988, consisting of singer
Damon Albarn, guitarist
Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James, and drummer Dave Rowntree. The group has been referred to as one of the "Big Four" of the
Britpop genre, alongside
Pulp,
Suede, and
Oasis. Their debut album,
Leisure (1991), incorporated the sounds of
Madchester and
Shoegaze. Following a stylistic change influenced by English guitar pop groups such as
the Kinks,
Depeche Mode and
