Monumental album. It has more ideas and variety that most bands have through their entire careers. And yes, it is better than Colors.

This album is truly a gem. It has everything that makes BTBAM such an incredible band. Amazingly talented song writing and masterful technical ability, powerful riffs that will melt your face and beautiful light sections. They know when to be silly and when to be serious, the album takes you on a voyage and it's a marvelous at that. While I have issues with the production on some of BTBAM's earlier albums, that isn't an issue here, the sound is crisp and full. It's not only my favourite album from BTBAM but one of my top albums of all time as well. As far as progressive masterpieces go, there are few if any that top this one for me. A masterpiece in every sense of the word.

I agree on everything little thing you've said, except that this is my favorite BTBAM album, I think it's better than Colors. Don't get me wrong: Colors is a head exploding album and an historic one, but Parallax 2 beat the shit of Colors. It's a hard battle, but I made my choice.

I've been convinced that this is their best album ever since I first heard it. Songwriting, performances, emotional depth, production (except the usual loudness war mastering) - everything here works for me. Albums this good don't come around too often. A career highlight for sure.

This has creeped up the list to being one of my favorite albums ever, so much energy, power, melody, high concept lyrics...this is a total package.

BTBAM seems capable of pulling off masterpiece upon masterpiece. I mean, this album topped Colors, and (IMO anyway..), TGM topped Colors.

@aldrignedigen, good point. I personally do love this album, along with the past albums (mainly Great Misdirect and Colors), and each has a distinctive style of it's own. @ABHORRANCE666, True, and yeah, I have heard some metalcore bands and they're pretty good and know how to give a more interesting style than traditional metalcore bands. The core side of BTBAM is actually good and still holds up, especially (for me anyway) The Silent Circus. And that's understand, I personally, for the interludes anyway, found the Goodbye tracks, Parallax, and the Black Box way better than Bloom and Autumn.

@AnarchyBrony - I think all of the above is correct. The first few BTBAM albums were Metalcore with Prog Metal leaning, and eventually shifted to shed the 'core and become total Prog Metal. Either way, the term "metalcore" shouldn't always have to be a dirty word. If it's good, sit back and rock. I actually prefer the more core side of BTBAM, but to each their own. I personally only enjoy Parallax II when I don't queue up the Goodbye songs, the interludes, or slow filler

BTBAM cant be pushed into any specific genre which makes them rather a unique band. This album is also a good example of their true greatness.

I friggen love this album, but..I'm a bit confused. I've always called BTBAM "Progressive Metal" (No not because I'm an 'elitist' or that crap, I don't identify myself with those jackasses..), but most people I've talk to say they're Metalcore. I mostly say they're Prog.Metal because of the Dream Theater influence, but I basically got botched and called an 'elitist' for saying they were prog metal (and questioning why Metal Archives hasn't added them, but then again, they themselves are elitists...). So, are BTBAM 'progressive metal' or 'metalcore', I'm seriously confused right now.

Does anyone else have the copy that runs approximately 8% faster? I just realized my tracks are all 10-30 seconds shorter than the official versions. I don't know if it's some weird transcoding error or someone ripped a vinyl at the wrong speed, but it's ruining my head knowing that the copy I listened to around 300 times over the last eight months is just a touch faster than it should be (it's also pitched up, so the real ones now sound grungy and sluggish to me, to the point where I can't even listen to it).

They should make a 100 something minute movie about Prospects 1 and 2 with the EP and album (Including songs like Swim to the Moon and Prequel to the Sequel, any songs that tie in with the story) as the soundtrack and hire an amazing Sci-Fi director. A la The Wall. I would give ALL my monies. (11)

I read in their Metal Blade profile that they planned on touring this year and playing it from start to finish. That would be my dream show. The only thing that would make it better is if they played Parallax I in front of it. I will travel so far if they really do this.
